Coolants – Buying Guide

Here we attempt to write a simple article to help you buy the right engine coolant and the factors that one would most likely consider :-

Purpose of the coolant :- Keeping the engine cool; i.e., avoid overheating and additionally prevent corrosion or may be even anti-freezing abilities if you are in colder regions.

Need to know (Via your bike manual) :-

  1. How much quantity you would need
  2. Any additives or chemicals that your bike manufacturer recommends to avoid
  3. Any other pertinent information on the manual

How to read the specs:-

  1. Boiling Temperature :- You can check the boiling temperature of the coolant manufacturer. Please read them and compare them at the right Bar pressure. For some of them print at 1 Bar (radiator cap) pressure and for others it might at 1.5 Bar pressure. Please note that the temperature ratings increase at higher pressure and cooling systems might be pressurised so you can do the math accordingly.
